Aura Verde LDA is committed to sustainable development, climate action and responsible business practices. As a circular-economy manufacturing company based in Mozambique, we transform coconut husk agricultural residues into biodegradable, bio-based solutions that reduce waste, lower emissions and protect ecosystems.
Our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) approach is embedded in our operations, products and partnerships and aligned with internationally recognized frameworks and initiatives.
Our Sustainability Approach
Aura Verde’s business model is built on circular economy and nature-based solutions.
By valorizing coconut husk waste that would otherwise decompose or be burned, we reduce agricultural waste, avoid methane emissions and replace fossil-based or extractive materials with renewable alternatives.
Our core principles include:
- Long-term environmental and social value creation
- Circular use of agricultural by-products
- Low-impact, mechanical processing
- Local sourcing and value-chain resilience
- Climate mitigation through material substitution
Environmental Management
Aura Verde is committed to protecting the environment and preventing pollution across all operations.
We are implementing an Environmental Management System aligned with ISO 14001 to systematically identify, manage and reduce environmental impacts related to:
- Energy use
- Waste and by-products
- Emissions and pollution prevention
- Water use
- Operational and environmental risks
Our Environmental & Climate Policy defines our commitments to environmental protection, legal compliance, climate action and continual improvement.
Climate Action & Net Zero Commitment
Aura Verde is a signatory of the UN SME Climate Hub and has committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Our Climate Targets
- Net Zero by 2050
- 30% absolute reduction of Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2030 (from 2026 baseline)
- 15% reduction of key Scope 3 emissions by 2030, with a focus on transport, logistics and purchased goods
As an early-stage manufacturing company, 2026 will be our first full production baseline year. Full emissions measurement and reporting will begin thereafter in line with SME Climate Hub methodologies.
Climate Action Measures
- Energy-efficient facility design and production processes
- Circular material use with zero organic waste to landfill
- Replacement of fossil-based absorbents with bio-based alternatives
- Local sourcing to minimize transport emissions
- Preparation for on-site renewable energy (solar)

Climate Solutions & Circular Products
Aura Verde’s products are designed as climate-enabling solutions.
Our portfolio includes:
- Organic Oil Absorbents – Biodegradable, bio-based oil absorbents manufactured from coconut husk fibres, designed as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polypropylene and chemical absorbents. Aura Verde’s organic oil absorbents effectively absorb hydrocarbons and other liquids while remaining non-toxic and non-leaching. By replacing fossil-based materials, they reduce hazardous waste, support safer spill response and contribute to lower life-cycle emissions in industrial, marine and environmental applications.
- Coco Peat – A renewable, plant-based growing medium derived from coconut husk residues, used as a sustainable substitute for peat and synthetic soil substrates. Coco peat supports soil regeneration, water retention and healthy root development while avoiding the environmental damage and carbon emissions associated with peat extraction. As a by-product-based material, coco peat contributes to circular agriculture and climate-resilient food and horticultural systems.
- Coir Fiber – Natural coconut fibre used for erosion control, geotextiles, landscaping and horticultural applications, replacing plastic-based fibres and synthetic geotextiles. Coir fiber is biodegradable, durable and suitable for stabilising soils, protecting slopes and supporting vegetation growth. By offering a renewable alternative to fossil-based materials, coir fiber reduces plastic pollution and supports sustainable land management.
- Compost – A nutrient-rich organic soil amendment produced from remaining coconut processing residues, closing nutrient loops and eliminating organic waste. Aura Verde’s compost improves soil structure, fertility and water retention while supporting regenerative agriculture and reducing reliance on synthetic fertilizers. Composting organic by-products prevents landfill disposal and associated methane emissions, contributing to climate mitigation and circular resource use.
- Coco Crush (Crushed Coconut Husk) – A bio-based intermediate material produced from hard coconut husk, designed for use in the production of activated carbon and other carbon-based climate and environmental applications. Coco Crush supports circular resource use by valorizing agricultural residues and enabling low-carbon alternatives to fossil-based or mined carbon materials. This product forms part of Aura Verde’s exploration of advanced, sustainable carbon materials and climate technology solutions.
These solutions reduce life-cycle emissions, avoid hazardous waste and support sustainable industrial, agricultural and environmental practices.
Aura Verde continues to explore advanced, sustainable applications of coconut-based materials, including carbon materials and climate technologies, in alignment with international sustainable chemistry and climate innovation initiatives.
Responsible Value Chain & Communities
We work closely with local farmers, suppliers and partners in Mozambique to build resilient and responsible value chains.
Key elements include:
- Long-term raw material security
- Local sourcing of coconut husks as an agricultural by-product
- Fair collaboration with smallholder suppliers
- Knowledge sharing on sustainable practices
Nature & Reforestation
Through our associated Ouro Verde Foundation, Aura Verde supports ecosystem restoration and climate resilience:
- 4,000 coconut seedlings planted in Sikiriva (Inhambane)
- 10,000 additional seedlings prepared for planting
This initiative strengthens climate adaptation, supports rural livelihoods and contributes to carbon sequestration.
Social Responsibility & Gender Equality
Aura Verde is committed to fair, inclusive and responsible business practices.
We are a member of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) and support:
- Gender equality and women’s participation across our value chain
- Safe and respectful working conditions
- Equal opportunity and non-discrimination
- Skills development and training
Social responsibility is integral to our long-term sustainability and business success.
Governance & Responsible Business Conduct
